About Acorn Community Theatre

Confidence
Discipline
Belonging
Family
These are the things Acorn Community Theatre stands for—and has stood for in Warrenville for a decade.  In that time, we have brought the community shows like Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, Annie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wizard of Oz, Narnia, and now, Godspell.  We have helped hundreds of residents enjoy both performing and watching quality entertainment, making Acorn into a place where our vision comes true—“Family-Friendly—on Both Sides of the Stage.”

Some of our talented kids have gone on to perform for Drury Lane, American Girl Theater, and other professional companies.  Others use their skills in high school drama and speech programs.  Best of all, some stay in the program for years, teaching other kids what they have learned.

Of course, Acorn isn’t just for kids.  Our community boasts many talented adults who have also taken the stage, finding enjoyment in a new hobby (or an old one they had forgotten).  Acorn has attracted college students, empty-nesters, and parents who want to make theater a family affair.  In fact, one of the things that makes Acorn unique is the large number of families who perform together.  How many activities today do you see entire families participating in together?  At a time when so many families are going ten different directions and everyone does their own thing, it’s nice to have someplace in our community where that doesn’t have to happen.

Another unique aspect of Acorn is our “everyone deserves a chance” policy.  Twice a year, we perform a show that accepts everyone who comes out.  Your child (or you!) will not be turned away as “not good enough.”   Honest.  Even if you sing like Miss Piggy.  You’re in.  (Adults must pass background checks, though.)  At Acorn we believe everyone should have a chance to shine.

Would you like to use your talent for the Warrenville arts community? Acorn always has room for:

*Publicity. Do you enjoy contacting newspapers, radio, TV stations, and businesses for show publicity? We would love your help!
*Fundraising. Like the above opportunity, we always need people to contact area businesses for program ads and sponsorships.
Tech personnel—like lights, camera, action? (And sound effects?) This is the place for you!
    Set construction and backstage help.

Acorn appreciates in-kind donations we can use such as printing, banner making, and set pieces/materials.
(*most needed)

Are you a director, music director, or choreographer? If you have interest in directing a future show for Acorn Theatre, please use our contact form. Our summer show is a mixed cast musical; the fall show is usually a childrens cast play, and the spring is an adult cast comedy or drama. Please let us know of your interest, availability, experience, and pay expectations.
